A new method of calculation has been in use since January 1998.  Individuals who benefit from special measures, such as in-company training, work programmes for unemployed persons, ADEM training etc are not counted as job seekers.  There were 3 152 such cases in September 2004.

The 1997 data have been recalculated according to the new method.  However, the previous sets of statistics published in earlier editions can no longer be compared with the current data.

Definition of unemployment used: Job seekers not in the labour force available for work, and seeking a suitable placement.
